Bob has over 35 years of experience in the distribution and marketing of consumer products and has had a unique and successful career in small private and large public consumer goods companies, as a CEO and board director.  

 

Early in his career, he joined his father’s health and beauty care and general merchandise distribution business in Worcester, Massachusetts.  By 1985 Millbrook Distributors had grown to become the largest distributor of its kind in the Northeast. In early 1986 McKesson Corporation, the nation’s largest distributor of pharmaceuticals acquired the company.  In 1994, Bob became the CEO of McKesson’s Service Merchandising Division, later renamed Millbrook Distribution Services. Employing 3500 associates, with revenues of over $800 million, Millbrook distributed 45,000 items to over 10,000 retail stores throughout the USA from four strategically located distribution centers.  Bob was also named a corporate officer of McKesson, by then a Fortune 100 company. In 1997, Bob led an investment group to acquire Millbrook from McKesson in a management buyout and embarked on a strategy to grow the business, acquiring several other companies including the Manischewitz® Company, Guiltless Gourmet®, Seasons®, and Rokeach®. In 2007 Bob and his partners successfully sold the company to United Natural Foods (UNFI), today a $20 billion distributor of natural, specialty, and organic foods. Post-acquisition, Bob remained President and CEO of Millbrook and was named an Executive Officer of UNFI and President of Specialty Distribution.  

 

In 2008 Bob established his firm, R.A. Sigel and Company, to acquire and invest in branded food businesses and has developed a consulting practice whose clients include Private Equity firms and Hedge Funds. Bob became an investor, CEO, and a director, of CWI Specialty Foods, Inc., which was sold to a larger strategic buyer in October of 2012. Bob joined AUA Private Equity Partners as an operating executive in March of 2013.  He became a director of Associated Supermarket Group (ASG) a company acquired by AUA in December of 2012. In September of 2014, Bob assumed the role of CEO of ASG to help transition the company founders into retirement and to help build a new management team. 

 

He formally retired from AUA and ASG in November of 2014. Bob is also a director of Panos Brands, a manufacturer and marketer of specialty food products.  In addition, he manages various family real estate holdings as President and General Partner of RDJ Realty Company.
